Flamenco is the traditional music of the Gypsies (called flamencos) from southern Spain. It took several centuries of development before flamenco music came to be accepted by society in general.

Gradually, the term Flamenco became broadly used to describe the songs, dance, and musical style of the Gypsy people. This site will explore this tradition and the exciting new places contemporary music influences have taken it.

Nuevo Flamenco, or new flamenco, was the name given during the 1980's to a younger generation of flamenco artists influenced by jazz and south american sounds , and other contemporary and traditional musics. It is a hybrid music that is for the most part a long way from the traditional forms of it's roots, though still retaining much of the spirit, excitement and inspiration. We take a look at this vibrant music style and its leading exponents.

Another great related guitar tradition is the Gypsy swing jazz, or Manouche, so eminently mapped out and defined by the genius of the great Django Rheinhardt.
